The Canadian TREE Fund would like to thank everyone who applied to this year’s Harold Van Dyke Bursary. This year we are thrilled to offer two bursaries – one to a recipient in Eastern Canada and one to a recipient in Western Canada. Congratulations to Amy Kikuchi and Paulina Kerik!
Receiving the Harold Van Dyke Bursary has been a great help for me, as a long-time student. I have a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) with a double major in Forest Conservation and Environmental Studies, and a minor in Indigenous Studies, as well as a Masters of Environmental Science from the University of Toronto. I am currently attending Humber College for the Arborist Pre-Apprenticeship Program, but due to COVID, I have not been able to work since last March. This bursary will help me to continue pursuing my passion of forest conservation and my future aspirations, including helping to develop sustainable forest management strategies of Canada’s trees and forests, and to work with Indigenous communities to help achieve this goal while also fostering much needed reconciliation.
– Pauline Kikuchi – Recipient of 2021 Harold Van Dyke Bursary
My name is Paulina Kerik and I am ecstatic to be this year’s chosen recipient for the Harold Van Dyke Bursary. This is my third year attending Olds College and it is because of funding from generous donors like you that I can continue with my education and career aspirations.
I am also very passionate about trees and tree care. I look forward to educating people in the proper care for our trees, whether that is at a municipality, a nursery, or any horticulture related business. I believe I will be a great role model to anyone that’s interested in this career, I am safety oriented and an advocate for personal growth and education.
