Thank you to all the amazing applicants who applied for the 2022 Harold Van Dyke Bursary. We are thrilled to offer two bursaries this year to two very deserving individuals. Well done Kim Farris-Manning and Jenna DeAbreu!
I am so grateful for this support in my return to studies; originally trained as an artist and musician, arboriculture is something that I fell into quite by chance due to all the changes brought on by

Covid-19. Over the past two years I’ve become enamoured with all things tree- and climbing-related and have particularly enjoyed bringing my arborist and artistic practices together to create what I like to call “arbor-art”.
I am eager to progress as a climbing arborist and am especially curious about tree risk assessment and knowledge of various pathogens. I’m currently working towards building a stronger scientific foundation through my studies in “Environnement forestier et faunique” (Forestry and Wildlife Environment) at Collège La Cité. The Harold Van Dyke Bursary will relieve me of some of the struggles of student life, allowing me to focus more on the discoveries and adventures to be had!
“It is such an honour to be the recipient of the Harold Van Dyke Bursary for 2022. Being a student is an expensive task so any help is always greatly welcomed. Growing up I always had a strong passion for being in nature which brought me to the tree care industry. Since starting my career, I have been working my way to get license upgrades and training courses completed in order to further my skills in the arboriculture industry in order to become the best arborist I can be, and to one day be able to pass on the knowledge I have gained to the future generations. It’s amazing to have help along the way.”
